If you’re like many new online business owners, you may think that putting up a website or blog will attract traffic like a bee to honey. In order for people to find your site, it’s good to be seen on the first 3 pages of search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. And a web link exchange can help you do just that.

Why the first 3 pages of the search engines? Because the chances of someone spending the time it takes to search through pages and pages of listings are slim. Think of how you search for something. Do you go beyond the second or third page or do you just give up and try a different set of keywords (or forget it altogether and go on to something else)?

Part of the way you rise in the ranks of Google or Yahoo is to have a number of sites linking to your site. From web 2.0 sites to video distribution sites to article databases, the more sites you have pointing to you the better off you’ll be.

But how do you do that?

You can direct link to your site via the methods listed above but you can also do a link exchange with a site that complements yours. Some web link exchanges are free and others charge a set fee to give you a particular number of links each month.

The issue with mass exchanges is that chances are good that you’ll get some links from sites that either have no relation to your site or your niche or they’re sites you’d rather not have pointing to you.

The best way for you to keep track of your link exchanges are to do them personally. You can search the terms “link exchange” or “web link exchange” with your niche topic to see what appears in the search engines.

If there isn’t anything you like using that method, use some keywords to see what your competitors’ sites are like. Sometimes they’ll have a related links page. Take a look and get ideas for sites that won’t be in direct competition with you but will work well with yours.

Here’s an example: a vegan chef might be interested in linking with someone who sells a vegetable gardening product. You would write to the site owner – look for a contact form or email address on their site – and ask if they would be interested in a web link exchange. These are very often free link exchanges between colleagues and you may even meet a new friend who can help your business.

Try some link exchanges to help elevate your page rank in the search engines. You may even find a new joint venture partner.

Everyone is aware of the importance of reciprocal linking but very little has been written about it. There are so many advantages of building a links network. Linking should be the foundation of the sites traffic as they serve markets of enthusiasts, like sports or hobbies or those having large number of directory sites. It is the most efficient way of driving website traffic.

Some of these benefits of link exchange for website promotion are listed below.
Many websites are looking for the traffic generated by pay per click website, and due to this the cost to the advertiser will raise. So reciprocal links cost you nothing but the time to submit URL’s and other important details.

Reciprocal links are not relied upon single point of control like other sources of traffic, hence they represent fail safe network.

Branding’ effect of your name will be greater if you have more links. The click through ratio of your links can be improved by broad awareness. Your sites name comes up everywhere which makes surfer curious.

Reciprocal links are extremely stable as they are gained through link exchange partners.

Publicity is the main factor for website promotion. An industry specific press release is equivalent to the act of asking for the link from another site, where payoff can be of long term. Anything can come your way from making your market aware, if you are having a new and unique product.

Established links give free traffic but earning those links is not free. It takes lot of time and patience to build a link network. Many websites offer this service and cost you some money. Many webmasters are interested in internet promotion through reciprocal linkage.

A backlink checker tool is a great way to help ensure that you are getting the backlinks you expect. Here is some useful information on these tools. A backlink checker tool is a utility which tells you how many inbound links are coming to your website.

If you are paying for these links this is important information to know. It is easy to find backlink tools. Many of them are totally cost free while others may incur a modest charge but they offer additional features.

A number of these tools are based online. You enter the website you want to check and it will report the number of backlinks and where they are coming from.

The useful thing about this is that you can typically find out the quality and relevance of the backlinks by examining the websites in which the backlinks originate from.

You can see if they are increasing and identify the types of backlinks you are receiving. In this way you can better understand if you should expect your rankings to increase. In addition, you can also determine if you need to put forth greater effort to get more relevant backlinks from high PR websites in order to increase your website rankings.

A backlink checker tool is also a very helpful way for you to determine the number and quality of backlinks your competitors are achieving. This can help you understand what you need to do to improve your results and better target your backlink building activities.

As you can see, a backlink checker tool is a very vital and useful tool to help assess your website ranking efforts. The tools are easy to use and the cost is very low.

Do an Internet search for backlink checker tools and you’ll find many options to consider. If you try several of them, you’ll most likely end up with a great tool to assist you in your link building and website ranking activities.

PageRank will shows how important Google thinks your site is. A higher score shows that Google holds more value to your site. A lower score shows that it is either new or Google does not think it is important enough to give a higher score to.

New sites will either have a score of N/A or 0. Usually Google will update this and you will get a new score if you have quality backlinks.

How Does Google Decide What Your PageRank Is

Your rank goes off of a couple of different things. First is the importance of the links that are pointing back to your site. In other words backlinks. Your backlinks should come from other high rank sites. You can also get authority backlinks that are relevant to your niche. Getting authority backlinks from edu and gov sites can be very helpful.

Blogging is a great way to get relevant backlinks. You need to leave a quality comment however. You could get marked as spam if you go around leaving generic comments.

What Are Other Important Factors For Ranking

Although your score plays an important part of your ranking it is not all that ranks you in the search engines. You should also have good on site SEO. Google will favor your site if you have used SEO properly.

Your keyword density and quality content count as well. Although this does not have to do with PageRank it does have to do with how Google decides to rank you. Google does not like to see duplicate content. Make sure that the content on your site is spun or original.

Use the Google PageRank checker periodically to check what your site is at. Then improve where you can to make your score better.

To add value to your site and improve your ranking at the search engines, the reciprocal links should point to a site with a similar theme or subject. Here are four ways to find related sites that are willing to exchange links with you:

Use the search engines and search for keywords associated with the subject of your site. Check out the sites that are listed at the top of the search results and determine which sites would be appropriate. Send a message to the webmaster for each of these sites. To make your life easier, create a template and save it.

Personalize each message with the webmaster’s name, website address and content. The method you use to approach the webmaster will affect your success. Include a link from your site to the site you are interested in getting a reciprocal link from and indicate the address at which the webmaster can find your link. You will also need to provide a description of your site and its URL address so that the other webmaster can easily set up the reciprocal link from his or her site.

Use your main keywords and perform a search at the main search engines to find out who your competition is. Check out their sites. Who do they link to? If you think you would also benefit from having the same links, contact the appropriate webmaster about getting a reciprocal link. Because they have already shown interest in exchanging links with a similar site, they may be more receptive to exchanging links with you.

Develop relationships with other sites that cover a subject similar to yours. If these sites have newsletters, subscribe to them and submit articles. Contribute in other ways by giving them ideas or suggestions about their site. If they sell products or services, offer reviews or testimonials. You can set up a link from your site to theirs and contact them by email about providing a reciprocal link. It may take a while but the links you can get will be great and highly relevant.

Locating linking partners can also be done via third-party services or software. While this article won’t recommend one in particular, it’s important to know that this option is out there for those interested. Alexa recommends a free traffic toolbar that can be added to your browser. This toolbar estimates the traffic received by any site and it can be useful information to have when deciding whether or not to approach a particular site for a reciprocal link.

Link building helps a particular website rank high in the result pages of search engines. Ranking high in search engines means you will drive targeted traffic to your website. So how can link building help drive traffic to your site? It is done by creating inbound or incoming links to your website from other websites on the Internet. You do this through reciprocal links or encouraging other website to exchange links with you.

Through links building, a website owner who is trying to sell something gets quality web traffic from relevant sites. What does this mean? This means increasing the sales generated by the website, as well as the credibility of your website.

But if you don’t know any website owners to build links with? There is software developed primarily for the purpose of driving and increasing traffic to your website. Developers know the importance of generating traffic so they offer free downloads to help beginners in their quest to build and establish their online identity.

A traffic generating software can help you instantly submit your content to popular search engines and even to some sites that welcome content from contributors. A web traffic generating software also allows you to establish your credibility online. You all have heard of success stories of online gurus who started small but have since gotten full exposure on the Internet.

The concept behind building a list evolves around the idea that you need to find people who are interested in your niche. For example: your site is all about traveling to the Bahamas. More or less the people in your list should also be interested in going to the Bahamas. If you have people in your list who don’t want traveling to the Bahamas for many reasons then they also don’t want anything to do with your site.

It is really important to learn how you can maximize your list to its fullest potential. You need to come up of ways to promote your list mainly to people who are interested in your kind of market. Think out of the box. Since competitors are out of the question, why not exchange links with other websites which also cover the same subject matter? Why not exchange links with sites that also offer travels to destinations near the Bahamas like for other Caribbean islands or those in French Polynesia. Just the same, the owners of these sites will also be open to the idea and they will place links on your site. They can also benefit from this approach the same way you benefit from having your links on their site.

When people who are interested in your site finally clicks on the links you’ve placed in the above mentioned sites, you should be able to back it up with a good squeeze page or an opt-in page. You need people to join your list so that they can receive an email from you. This is the SOP in proper Internet etiquette. With an opt-in page, don’t forget an autoresponder. Above all, your list should remain confidential. It is a part of good business practice.

List building becomes so much easier with link exchange. It is one of the proven ways to succeed in email marketing and eventually, in your Internet marketing campaigns.

Google has stated that those reciprocal links aren’t as valued in their algorithm as one-way links. But that’s not the real problem we want to deal with here. The real trouble with reciprocal links is something else entirely.

The real issue with reciprocal links is the fact that it’s very easy for you to get the short end of the deal. In fact, you could get absolutely nothing out of the trade. There’s a few ways that this can be done without you knowing it. Some examples:

1. The No Follow Link. ‘No Follow’, if you aren’t familiar with the term, is an attribute that can be added to a link that tells Google not to give any SEO credit or benefit to the site being linked to. In other words, all the other guy has to do is add ‘Rel=NoFollow’ to the link to your site and that link is now worthless. You link to them in good faith and, in return, you’re given an empty shell.

2. The Link That Disappears. Other times you’ll actually get a good link in return. For a while. Then, after some time has passed, they take down the link to your site. What’s left? A one-way link from you to them, giving them the full SEO benefits at your expense.

3. The Link On The Page That’s Invisible To Search Engines. One of the tools webmasters use is the Robots.txt file t hat allows them to tell Google which pages to index and which ones not to index. Your reciprocal link partner puts a link to you on a page they’ve told Google not to catalog. Google can’t give you any SEO credit if they can’t actually see and index your link, can they? Now you’re catching on.

Protect Your SEO Linking

What can you do about this? There is reciprocal link software out there, but they can’t catch every technique used by less honest websites. Still, it can give you the advantage of protecting you from the most common ways. But do you really want to have to monitor these less valuable links constantly?

There’s nothing wrong with exchanging links with sites you truly believe are helpful to your visitors or that have good content. Blogs exchange links often because of the traffic they bring even more than for the SEO benefits. That’s a good reason to do it.

However, if you have to keep a constant watch over them, it’s probably time to look at other strategies, especially at acquiring one-way links. Write articles, create solid content, start blogging.

There’s a lot of ways that can get you the SEO advantages you’re seeking than just link trading. And they’ll probably last longer, too. Your time and energy can probably be better spent on these efforts.
